OUR LATEST EXPEDITION - Another World’s First

Of the world’s ten tallest mountains, eight fall within the borders of Nepal. That includes Mount Everest, the tallest at 29,032 feet. On this exclusive expedition we venture deep into the high Sivalik foothills and Great Himalayas to see all eight of Nepal’s colossal summits. Never before has such a trip been possible. This is what Far Xplorer does best - the impossible.

You would think it would be easy to see the world’s biggest mountains, but the Himalayas are often elusive. Since many of them are set deep inside the range on the border with China, the most common way to see them is a multi-day foot trek, or to see them from the air. Either way, it’s quite a feat just to see one or two in a give trip.

Our all-new Eight Summits Expedition is unlike anything offered in the Himalayas and gives our travelers a unique opportunity to lay eyes on all eight of Nepal’s biggest mountains.

Starting in the stunningly beautiful tea region of Illam in the far eastern corner of Nepal, the route scrapes the feet of the Himalayas and winds its way westward. Passing through lush river valleys and climbing to towering heights, the journey culminates in authentic explorations of the famous Manang Valley. Once there we ride beneath the summit of Annapurna, the tenth tallest mountain on earth.

More than just a trip to see massive mountains, this is an exploration of Nepal’s amazing natural and cultural diversity. From the banana groves of the lowlands, to the Buddhist monasteries of the high Himalayas, this expedition offers something new and exceptional around every turn.

Live the ADVENTURE

EXPEDITION OVERVIEW

  • We will limit the size of this team to just eight riders. It's a number we have found offers the fluidity required to move freely in rugged areas.

  • Like many of our remote explorations, we will travel with our full support staff of seasoned pros. This will include three cooks, one mechanic, one expedition leader, road guide, camp porters and drivers.

  • There are very few hotels or restaurants where we will be traveling so riders will enjoy our legendary mobile basecamp. Our light and fast version still offers multi course meals, hot showers, and other surprising luxuries.

  • A true expedition of this type requires extensive planning and alignment of resources, all of which will fall within the trip fare. That includes; all accommodations within the trip dates, including the arrival day, meals, motorcycles, fuel, permits, and all of our extensive guide services. You won't reach for your wallet for two weeks.

After our team gathers in Kathmandu, a short 60 minute flight puts us in the far southeast corner of Nepal. Immediately on arrival we depart on our first 2-hour ride into the beautiful tea region of Illam. This verdant landscape, just one ridgeline over from Darjeeling, India, is a beautiful example of Nepal’s extreme diversity. On the horizon the 3rd tallest mountain on earth, Kanchenjunga, is our first big peak of the trip.

For the next few days we journey westward on some of the most serpentine roads in Nepal. The rugged foothills eventually take us to a secret viewpoint where we will catch a rare glimpse of Mount Everest. Early risers will get to see the morning sun on the world’s most famous summit.

More travel westward puts us in a wildlife sanctuary near Kathmandu before pressing on, this time with a deep dive into the Great Himalayas. Our final segment includes three days riding deep into the Himalayas through the legendary Manang Valley. We spend a full day in Manang riding tiny roads and visiting ancient villages and colorful Buddhist monasteries. One last ride puts us in the resort town of Pokhara with views of our final mountain, the world’s 7th tallest - Mount Dhaulagiri.

A short 30 minute flight on the final day places us back in Kathmandu for more explorations of Nepal’s ancient capital city.

I am blown away by the professionalism of Christophe and the Far Xplorer team. They are a well oiled machine and clearly passionate about what they do. I will be back. - John, USA 2024

I have been on half a dozen motorcycle tours in Europe, South America, and Africa. My trip with Far Xplorer was by far the best. The motorcycle riding was some of the best and most exciting I have ever done, but a Far Xplorer trip is as much about the travel as the riding. I left feeling like I had truly experienced Nepal in ways I would not have had I gone on my own, or with any other company.

Modeled after the finely appointed camps used to climb the highest Himalayan summits, our mobile base camp allows us to go - anywhere. Don’t let the word camp fool you, our roving compound includes private sleeping tents, flushing toilets, hot showers, and multi-course meals served in a dedicated dining tent by our staff of cooks and porters. They are the best in the business and ensure you want for nothing while underway.

The Far Xplorer Base Camp

This is one of the most unique trips we offer with regard to accommodations. For the first half of the trip we get to leverage the one thing that makes a Far Xplorer trip unlike anything offered in the Himalayas - our fully appointed expedition basecamp.

For the second half of our journey we have selected some of the very best hotels in the region. The newly opened Manang Mountain Lodge where we will stay for two nights was recently given a “Ten Best in the World” award by Time Magazine.

BESHISHAR GATEWAY RESORT

We spend two nights on either end of our Manang Valley ride at this superb hotel complex positioned right on a beautiful river valley.

MOUNTAIN LODGE MANANG

Newly opened in 2025, the Manang Mountain Lodge is highly regarded as one of the best hotels in the world, primarily due to its refinement and unbelievably beautiful location in the Himalayas.

KATHMANDU HOTEL NOMAD

Our home away from home in the heart of Kathmandu is the Nomad Hotel. Owned by the Sherpa Group, a famous hotelier in Nepal, the service here is without peer.

  • Riders on this trip will need good off-road riding skills and confidence in variable conditions which include loose surfaces, steep slopes, and all the fun conditions of a Nepali road. Riders should be prepared for the occasional 6 hour ride day.

  • To ensure maximum enjoyment, riders should have good fitness to make long days in tough conditions more enjoyable. Good physical stamina is a must to ensure every mile is comfortable.

  • Riders must be 18 years of age, hold a valid motorcycle license, and ideally you should obtain an international drivers license, which is very cheap and easy to obtain online.

And again - prior off-road riding experience and confidence in mixed terrain is a must.

Itinerary at a glance

  • Welcome to Nepal, this is a day to see the sights and rest from long travels.

  • A sunrise flight to Bhadrapur puts us in the far eastern corner of Nepal. Our first 2 hour ride has us in beautiful tea fields by early afternoon.

  • Rough roads and rugged terrain carry us westward to our first views of Kanchenjunga and Makalu. Our camp is on the grounds of a Nepali Army base.

  • Few roads offer as many curves as this one as we rise and fall. Over hills, down to cross deep river valleys. Each mile offers unbeatable views.

  • We climb one of the best motorcycle roads in Nepal, one known to very few, to see Mount Everest from close range. This is a highlight of our time in the east.

  • After a chilly night up high we drop nearly 8,000 feet to camp on the beautiful Son Koshi river. It’s time to warm up before pushing to Kathmandu.

  • We’ll have to work together on this day to navigate the busy streets of Kathmandu as we pass through the city on route to our eco lodge high in the hill. A view of Manaslu at sunset ends the day.

  • It’s time to slow down and our new pace allows us time to visit the museum in Gorkha, the kingdom that birthed Nepal as a nation. Our route takes us to the mouth of the Manang Valley for our deep dive into the Himalayas.

  • Today we ride one of the most stunning roads in all of Nepal, the road to Manang. Flanked by waterfalls and towering summits, this is a true Himalayan day.

  • This is effectively a rest day, but extremely active. We visit the 800 year old monastery of Braga before visiting old villages with incredible mountain views. Our hotel in Manang is one of the most celebrated in the entire world.

  • Another great ride through Manang Valley puts us back in the lush foothills to rest up for one more ride to cap off the journey.

  • It doesn’t take long to return to Pokhara. We arrive in time to relax, get a massage, take a warm shower, and rest from a long adventure.

  • A mid-morning flight to Kathmandu has us back at the Nomad Hotel by lunch. There will be ample time to see some of the city’s famous sites before the final day.

  • Since most international flights depart in the evening, most travelers will have additional time to see more of Kathmandu. This marks the end of a spectacular Himalayan journey.

Tea is an integral part of Nepal’s culture. The country’s famous tea growing region, set just a hilltop away from the Darjeeling, India, is the perfect place to begin our journey. Vibrant and pristine, it is one of the most striking corners of Nepal and so far removed from the tourist routes, only a small fraction of outside visitors ever get to see this gorgeous landscape.

THE ILLAM TEA REGION OF EASTERN NEPAL

We wanted our travelers to get the most authentic Himalayan experience and Manang Valley delivers that better than anywhere else. The road into the valley is dramatic and narrow with countless waterfalls adding to the grandeur of the route. Icy peaks overhead convey an almost impossible sense of scale. Once in the valley itself, old villages and colorful monasteries speak to the rich history of the people that have called this rugged place home for over a thousand years. This is Manang. This is your ultimate Himalayan escape.
