THE JUNGLE OVERLAND ADVENTURE

In the last few years, many of our trips have included brief visits to the low jungles of Nepal. Chitwan and Bardiya National Parks are both world renowned for their diversity of animals as well as their successful efforts to protect them. For 2027, we’re launching an all-new exploration of Bardiya National Park in the hopes of seeing the region’s most striking and elusive creatures.

Most well known for ice-capped Himalayan peaks, many people are not aware Nepal is also home to 350 wild Bengal tigers, 650 rhinos, and herds of white Asian elephants. They share habitat with clouded leopards, jaguars, Gharial crocodiles, Langur and Rhesus monkeys, pangolins, red pandas, and even Ganges dolphins in the Karnali River. If you don’t consider yourself a birder, the hundreds of exotic birds in the park will make you one.

During this 10-day adventure, we will spend four full days in Bardiya National Park with the region’s best safari guides. Between sunrise and sunset excursions we will visit nearby villages where the indigenous Tharu people still live as they have for centuries.

It wouldn’t be a proper trip to Nepal without also diving deep into the colorful cultures of Kathmandu, and to see the word’s largest mountains. To attain the best views we will spend one night atop the famous hill station of Nagarkot with sweeping views of the Himalayas.

To fit all of these experiences into one epic trip, we will travel by private jeep, domestic flight, and fold in a few short walks. Bring a camera. You will want to share this experience for years to come.

TRIP OVERVIEW

We will spend two full days in Kathmandu with our award-winning cultural guide, Susan Manandhar to explore seven of the UNESCO World Heritage sites in the valley. We will sample the delicious flavors of Newar and Nepali food before taking a one hour Jeep drive to the hilltop town of Nagarkot. After taking in the views of the Himalayas and short walks, we drop back into the valley to the beautiful and well-preserved palace town of Bhaktapur. The following morning we hop on a 60 minute flight far to the west to Nepalgunj near Bardiya National Park. We will center the next several days of safaris around our luxury safari lodge right on the edge of the preserve. Nearing the trip’s end a flight back to Kathmandu gives us more time to see the city and shop for memorable souvenirs.

DEEP DIVE  KATHMANDU

Since most flights arrive in the early morning, we will be able to hit the ground running with our first visits of this fascinating city. Our award-winning cultural guide will take us to her favorite spots while still affording time to rest after long travels.

  • BOUDHANATH STUPA

The largest Buddhist Stupa in Nepal, this is our favorite place to visit on arrival in Kathmandu. Tranquil and exotic it is the center point for Buddhist culture in the city.

  • PATAN DURBAR SQUARE

One of the three royal palaces of the Kathmandu Valley, Patan Durbar Square is beautifully preserved and ornate. Situated right in the heart of the city it is bustling with life.

  • PASHUPATINATH TEMPLE

It’s one of the most sacred temple grounds in the Hindu world and the location of Nepal’s most holy cremation grounds. It is a powerful place to visit and central to Nepal’s cultural identity.

  • SWAYAMBUNATH STUPA

This beautiful Buddhist shrine sits atop a hilltop on the edge of the city. Flanked with an urban forest filled with monkeys it lives up to it’s common name as the monkey temple.

HIMALAYAS  NAGARKOT

No trip to Nepal is complete without laying eyes on the Great Himalayas. That is our primary reason to ascend to the high edge of the Kathmandu Valley. It also gives us an opportunity to experience the foothill regions that are central to the identity of the Nepali people. With excellent hotels and restaurants, Nagarkot creates a great escape from the busy city to enjoy the peace and quiet of the high hills.

SAFARI  BARDIYA NATIONAL PARK

Bardiya National Park is unlike many wildlife sanctuaries. There are not fences. No gates. The animals are free to roam and often live side-by-side with nearby communities. Even from the main paved road through the park, our travelers always see dozens of varieties of animals and birds. For four days we will embark on sunrise safaris, late evening walks, and Jeep trips with the best guides in the region.
